How much SIP you need for ₹1 crore in 5 years

At an assumed 12% a year
₹1,21,232 a month

or ₹1,01,567 a month to start, rising 10% every year. Total invested: ₹72.74 lakh flat, ₹74.41 lakh with the step-up.

At different returns

Equity fund returns are not fixed, so the table shows four planning assumptions. The SIP is invested at the start of each month and compounds monthly, the method AMFI and fund houses use.

What 5 years changes

Five years is short for an all-equity plan. Over individual five-year stretches, equity fund returns in India have varied widely, and a fall in the last year or two can set the result back with little time to recover. That is why the 8% and 10% rows are worth reading as closely as the 12% one.

Year by year at 12%

The flat SIP of ₹1,21,232 a month, followed through each of the 5 years. The last column is how much of the ₹1 crore is in place by the end of that year.

If you already have some savings

Money invested today grows alongside the SIP, so a starting sum lowers the monthly amount. At 12% a year, compounded yearly for the lump sum:
